With the help of seven boys from Port Washington, the Checkmate Sharks lacrosse team is gearing up for a strong end to the summer tournament season this weekend.
Last weekend, the team defeated Co-Art Lax of Boston to win their division of the New England Youth Lacrosse All-Star Tournament at the University of Massachussets on July 7-8.
The team made up of boys from Port Washington, Garden City, Friends Academy, Massapequa, North Shore and Mineola, went 6-0 en route to the title.
Playing for the Sharks are Zach Avazis, Conor Jenkinson, Johnny Nahas, John Neil, Michael Petty, Hayden Quigley and Charlie Scharf. The Sharks (14-4) will end the summer tournament season this weekend when they compete in the Blue and Gold classic at Hofstra University.
