Double Trouble: Froccaros Score Big as Port Bests Calhoun in Girls Lacrosse

Port Washington defeats Calhoun, 19-5.

Calhoun needed to secure a win Wednesday evening at  to make the girls lacrosse playoffs. Instead its season ended in a blowout. Port Washington had the third seed in the post-season locked up, with seemingly nothing to play for, but that did not stop it from going on offensive attack to a 19-5 victory in its regular season finale.

Scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., the game was delayed 30 minutes because Calhoun’s bus was late. The Calhoun girls had little warm-up time, and its effect was obvious. Before Calhoun could blink, it was down 3-0, after back-to-back goals by Jacqui Froccaro and another by Alexa Froccaro. Port Goaltender Samantha Tilt, whose brother returned home Wednesday from a tour in Afghanistan, saw almost no pressure through the game’s first six minutes before Meghan O’Sullivan pulled Calhoun to within two, by netting a goal, making it 3-1. Thirty seconds later Port attacker Katelyn Brown netted a goal, making it 4-1.

From that point on it was all about the Froccaro girls. They combined for the final seven goals in the first half, including a stretch of four straight goals in two minutes by Alexa Froccaro. Calhoun’s O’Sullivan scored three more goals, bringing the score to 11-4 at halftime.
