Generals Finish Port Washington Series with 4-1 Win

Junior pitcher Jesse Tuozzo broke MacArthur school records with 18 strikeouts.

The MacArthur Generals varsity baseball team hit the field confident and strong Thursday afternoon after two powerful victories against their opponent, the Port Washington Vikings, earlier this week.

The Hero: Although the Levittown team couldn't pull off another shutout win, junior Jesse Tuozzo broke MacArthur High School records on the pitcher's mound as the Generals defeated the Vikings with a final score of 4-1, moving ahead in Conference AA-II.

"He was fantastic," Head Coach Steve Costello said of Tuozzo. "Everything was here on the mound today. There's 21 outs in a game and he struck out 18 of them."

Tuozzo's one-hitter performance made it difficult for Port Washington to compete. The Vikings held a one run lead early in the matchup thanks to Aaron Feinberg's first inning score, but the Generals soon fired back to the top.

The Turning Point: In the bottom of the fourth inning, Kevin Roach locked in an RBI-single to put the Generals on the board with a tie score of 1-1. MacArthur's retaliation continued through the fifth and sixth innings when Roach scored once more along with Will Cheshire and Kevin Monahan.

The Quote: "[Pitcher] Paul Mills threw the best game I've seen him pitch in four years," Head Coach Matt Holzer said. "I'm proud of my guys. We hung in there and played tough."

The Bottom Line: The Vikings may have returned home defeated, but according to head coach Matt Holzer, the boys of Port Washington played to the best of their ability and fought through like true champions.

Who's Next: Port Washington will also head back to the field Monday at home against Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School at 10:30 a.m. The MacArthur Generals will host East Meadow High School on Monday at home at 10:30 a.m.
