Girls Lacrosse Completes Undefeated Season

Lady Vikings' quest for an undefeated season is complete after win over MacArthur.

"This is a big statement you girls made to the coaching staff and all of Nassau County by having an undefeated season," coach Raquel Piraino said in a post-game pep talk after her Lady Vikings defeated MacArthur, 24-10, on Wednesday. "Be proud of yourselves. We're ready for the playoffs."

For 50 minutes, the Lady Vikings were having fun on the lacrosse field, lobbing long passes, playing great offense and, of course, keeping up their top-notch defense, led by goalie, junior Sam Tilts, who had 15 saves on the afternoon.

"It feels good being undefeated," Tilts said. "I've worked really hard to improve and it's very confidence boosting. The team helps me out so much on the field, they're all very supportive."

As they have all season long, the team's offense supported its defense. Cousins Alexa Froccaro and Jackie Froccaro scored seven goals apiece, Kaitlyn Brown had four and both Christina Commons and Ali Feldman added three goals.

"This is unbelievable!" Alexa Froccaro said. "To be undefeated is great. No one can take this away from us."

"It's been exciting all season long," Jackie Froccaro added. "Every day was a new challenge for us and we've overcome them all."

The Lady Vikings have become a well-oiled machine on the field and are a team unified by skills and admiration for one another.

"We've played as a cohesive unit and it has worked," Jackie Froccaro said. "We hoped we would win games but this has exceeded our expectations."

Tilts added, "We're like a family this year."

The team only gets to revel in victory for so long as the Lady Vikings now look ahead to Wednesday, May 19, when they take to the field for the first round of the Class A playoffs.

"This feels so good," Brown said. "I love the girls, I love being here. We were eager to keep our undefeated season alive. Hopefully, we'll go far in the playoffs."
