Sports Roundup: Port Basketball, Swim Teams Off to Good Start

An update on the winter sports season in Port Washington.

Winter sports are in full swing for Port Washington teams.

At 4-2, the boys basketball and team is off to a respectable start heading into the Coaches vs. Cancer game this week.

The Port Washington swimmers are undefeated at 3-0.

For the first time in school history, a Port Washington bowling team member Jameson Santelli rolled a 300 in a victory against Manhasset High School.

Here's an update on how they are faring so far this winter season:

Basketball
The boys team is in second place at 4-2 in Nassau Conference A-II play (7-3 overall). The Vikings are coming off of a 59-52 win at MacArther on Jan. 11. Port plays Thursday in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game Jan. 16 at Schreiber.

The girls basketball team is 3-3 in Nassau Conference AA_II (6-5 overall). In their last game, the Vikings beat Plainview JFK 51-46 for their second straight win. The girls play at East Meadow  (0-6 in conference, 1-10 overall) on Jan. 17.

Bowling
The boys bowling team has a 2-3 overall and in Nassau Conference I after sweeping Great Neck South on Jan. 13 in their most recent match. Next up for the bowlers is a match against Great Neck North on Jan. 15. Team member Jameson Santelli rolled a perfect game in a match against Manhasset this season.

At 0-2 overall and in Nassau Conference I, the girls team is looking for their first victory of the season. They roll against Great Neck North Jan. 15.

Swimming
The boys team is undefeated at 3-0 overall in Nassau's Division B Conference II play, trailing Syosett (4-0). Next up for the team is a meet at Syosset on Jan. 15.

Gymanstics
The Port Washington girls gymnastics team is 0-3 both overall and in Nassau Conference II play so far this season. The team will look for its first win against Valley Stream District (0-2) Jan. 15.

Wrestling
The Vikings (1-0) won their first match of the season against Nassau Conference 1B leading East Meadow 39-30 on Jan. 8. They next travel to Farmingdale (0-0) on Jan. 15.
