Lady Vikings Continue to Conquer Conference III

Schreiber girls varsity lacrosse stays undefeated with impressive win over Locust Valley.

Games like this are referred to as moments of truth, a time when the two top teams do battle for conference supremacy. The Schreiber Lady Vikings, led by the Froccaro cousins, Alexa and Jackie, and Chrissy Commons, remained undefeated as they won a highly competitive battle against the Locust Valley Falcons, 20-14.

The game was the knock-down, drag out war that both teams as well as the riotous crowd thought it would be.

"We were tied at the half, and we're pretty evenly matched, but we gave them too many chances," coach Raquel Piraino said in a post-game talk to her team.

Tied at nine at the start of the second half, it was still the story of the impenetrable force meeting the immovable object — neither team would give an inch to the other, until the Lady Vikings Lily Trope caused a game-changing turnover. The team never looked back from that point on, outscoring the Falcons (4-1 in Conference III) 11-5 in the second half to continue their perfect run.

"It feels amazing," Trope said about being undefeated. "We've all worked really, really hard for this."

Alexa Froccaro scored 10 of the Vikings' 20 goals. Her cousin Jackie won 14 draw controls and scored five goals as well.

The three stars of Wednesday's game — the Froccaros and Trope — remain humble about the prospect of an undefeated season.

"Our ultimate goal is to win the conference championship," Alexa said.

"We take it one game at a time, but always work towards our long-term goal," Trope added.

Jackie put it simply. "We're clicking as a team," she said. "We're getting better and better every game."

Still undefeated in Conference III, coach Piraino continues to praise her squad.

"Everyone here can smile, cause we're 6-0, and that doesn't come easy no matter what conference you're in," Piraino said.

The Lady Vikings (4-0 Conference III, 6-0 overall) look to keep their winning streak alive on Friday at home against the Jericho Jayhawks.

"We've been waiting for this years because we all have a lot of experience," Trope said. "It's extremely motivating that we're all playing well together and the coaches believe in us."
