It is looking like a fantastic weekend in Manhasset Bay and the waters of the western Long Island Sound.
For sailing enthusiasts the Knickerbocker Cup is being sailed in the bay. The K-Cup is an international match racing event featuring sailors from Russia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Denmark. The sailing is very exciting and is worth checking out. Port Water Taxi and Manhasset Bay Yacht Club have spectator boats going out. You can also see the boats from the picnic tables at the end of Inspiration Wharf.
This weekend is the WICC bluefish tournament, so it will be busy on the water. Bunker have been impossible to find in the western Sound and so have the bluefish. There are big blues hanging around the points and cruising in mid-Sound, but the big blitzes haven't been happening like they normally do at this time of the year. Fortunately the fluke fishing has been great. Spearing and sand eels have been the killer bait.

The waters off Sands Point Preserve have been producing nice numbers of fish. Fluke season ends September 6, so get out there while you can. Porgie fishing has been decent along the points and around the rocks near Davids Island. Chumming with clam chum has been the key to good numbers of fish. Snappers are in and are all along the shore and docks. Kastmasters and spoons in 1/8 ounce size have been the ticket as well as spearing on size 5 snapper hooks. There are also lots of big blue claw crabs around the docks and pilings, so make sure to bring a crab net.
