Port Washington Native Honored For Strong Basketball Play at Stony Brook

Ahmad Walker named America East Rookie of the Week.

Stony Brook men's basketball redshirt freshman Ahmad Walker of Port Washington has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, according the the school's athletics website.

Averaging 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in two Stony Brook home victories, the six foot four inch guard played a key role in a 67-47 win over Binghamton and a 70-65 victory vs. UMass Lowell. 

Walker was instrumental on defense against the Bearcats with a career-high five steals and holding All-America East guard Jordan Reed scoreless for the game.

Against the River Hawks, Walker contributed produced a career-high 18 points,  seven rebounds and three assists.

Walker has started every game for Stony Brook this season and while averaging 9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field.

The Seawolves play at UMBC Monday and then return home to face VermontFriday night at Pritchard Gymnasium at 9 p.m., in a nationally televised ESPNU game.

Walker played at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Mass., where he graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,745 points. He spent one year at Schreiber High School in Port Washington and one year at St. Dominic's High School in Oyster Bay.
