Port Swimming Falls to Top-Ranked Team

Following loss to Great Neck South, Vikings set to close out regular season with dual meet against Manhasset and Sewanhaka.

Port Washington was outmatched, 84-79, by Great Neck South, on Thursday evening, in the team's second-to-last meet of the regular season. Schreiber's athletes fought hard, coming up just short to the top-ranked team in Nassau County.

Ivan Bandovic and Steven Smith continue to be two of the team's top performers. Bandovic broke his school record in the 100 Butterfly for the third meet in a row and finished first in the 200 Individual Medley (2:10.34). Smith bested his 100 Freestyle time with a first-place finish in a time of 54.34 and took first place in the 50 Freestyle.

Port's 200 Medley Relay team, which is comprised of Bandovic, Smith, Jason Moss and Tommy Jester, continues to shed time of its school record, dropping another two seconds to finish in 1:51.89. The team also finished first in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

"The Medley Relay is now ranked seventh in Nassau County and continues to improve," Coach Joe Lennon said.

Personal bests were also turned in by the 200 Medley Relay team of Matthew Epstein, David Gueli, Mattias Franco and Luke Record with a time of 2:10.50; Jester broke his 50 Freestyle time with a 24.41; Epstein finished the 100 Backstroke in 1:07.00; Gavin Walsh set a personal mark in the 200 Freestyle of 2:25.38; Jason Stewart did the same in the100 Breaststroke with a 1:21.00; and David Chang improved to a 1:36.58 in the 100 Breaststroke.

"As we continue to to improve and drop times, we are looking forward to Friday's rematch with Manhasset and conference rival, Sewanhaka," said Lennon, of the three-team meet starting at 7 p.m. on Friday night. "It is a great way to close out our dual meet season. With the divisional and county championships just a week away, the team continues to work hard each morning in preparation for the culmination of a great season."
