Port Washington Kids Get Fit

Students and teachers embrace National Physical Education and Sport Week.

Students at Port Washington Public Schools are celebrating National Physical Education and Sport Week in style.

On Friday at Manorhaven School, for instance, second graders performed in a hoe down, where they danced to such favorites as “Cotton Eye Joe” and “Turkey in the Straw,” as well as sang “You are My Sunshine,” “Oh Susanna” and more.

Earlier in the week, elementary school students across the district participated in Project ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously).

The fun continues Saturday with the Port Washington Elementary School Family Run-4-Fun Day at the Schreiber High School track, where  all elementary school children and their families are invited for a free day of track and field activities at the high school track. The day also includes face painting, healthy snacks and live music. This year the district is partnering with Erin Mitchell, a Schreiber junior, as she is working towards her for Girl Scouts Gold Award.

The forecast for tomorrow looks promising, 65 degrees and sunny – so slather on the sunscreen, and bring the kids.
