Port Washington Sports Notebook: April 29 – May 5

There are so many sports out in the Port Washington area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.

Here’s what the local Port Washington teams have been up to this week:

Port Washington:

Baseball: The Vikings were swept by MacArthur this week, allowing 30 runs to be scored against them. On April 29 they were shutout 10-0. Dom Danetti tossed six shutout innings while allowing two hits. Tom Kelleher went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

The next day it was also a 10-0 loss. Kevin Curtis hit a three-run home run to lead the offense. Adam Heidenfelder fired six innings while fanning 11.

On May 2 it was a 10-3 loss. Chris Pappas went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the first inning. Rob Andreoli also drove in two runs.

Softball: The Vikings won all their of their games this week to finish out their conference schedule an undefeated 13-0. On April 29 they routed Westbury 17-3. Jackie Avila went 4-for-4 with three RBI to lead the offense.

On May 1 they beat Great Neck South 9-3. Alex Caprariello allowed one run and struck out six in the victory.

Then on May 3 the Vikings defeated Valley Stream Central by the score of 13-6. Caprariello was 3-for-3 at the plate. Georgia Goodman was 4-for-4 and scored four times as well.

Boys Lacrosse: The Vikings won both of their games this week. On May 1 they ousted Farmingdale 10-5. John Crawley continued his hot play, scoring four goals to lead the way.

On May 3 they defeated Plainview JFK 10-3. Once again, Crawley led the offense with two goals and four assists. Derek Caruso added three goals.

Girls Lacrosse: The Vikings lost both games this week. The first one occurred on April 29 against North Shore in which they lost 12-10. The go-ahead goal was scored by Carly Comitino with just under eight minutes remaining. It was her third goal of the day.

The next day they fell 11-7 to Cold Spring Harbor. Holly Logan scored five goals and Katherine Rueger added two goals.

Manhasset:

Baseball: The Indians defeated Lynbrook two of three this week. They lost 3-1 in the first game on April 29. Chris Roepkan fired a complete game, allowing 1 earned run on four hits. Eduardo Martinez drove in the decisive run with an RBI single.

On April 30 the Indians defeated them 7-4. Harrison Felman broke the tie with a two-run single in the fifth inning. Lukas Pracher went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

On May 2 Manhasset outlasted them in a 10-8 victory. Charles Mack went 2-for-3 with two RBI and drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning.

Softball: The Indians dropped both games this week. On April 30 they lost a slugfest by the score of 17-15. Tori Campbell went 3-for-3 with two RBI and five runs scored.

On May 2 they had a pitchers duel, but also fell by the score of 2-0. Gianna Cilluffo tossed a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts. She also drove in the game-winning RBI with a single in the first inning.

Boys Lacrosse: The Indians won both games this week. On May 1 they defeated Hewlett 7-5. Mike Fahey had two goals and Dylan Meyer did a great job in goal with six saves.

On May 3 they beat Floral Park 15-2. James Farrell, Sean Grimm, Tommy Lavelle and Brian Barry each scored two goals in the win.

Girls Lacrosse: The Indians defeated Cold Spring Harbor 12-10 on April 29. Julia Glynn scored the game-winning goal with just over one minute remaining. She scored four goals on the day.

They also won on May 1 over Massapequa by the score of 14-8. Lindsey Ronbeck scored three goals to lead the way.

St. Mary's:

Baseball: The Gaels were swept by St. Anthony's this week. On April 30 they were defeated 5-4. Jordan Behr drove in the winning run on a suicide squeeze in the fifth inning.

On May 1 it was a 9-0 shutout. Bryan Tinney led the way for the Friars, going 3-for-3 with a grand slam. John Parise tossed five shutout innings. 

The Friars completed the sweep on May 3 with a 10-3 win. Bryan Tinney was the winning pitcher to improve St. Anthony's to 8-5 in the conference.

Softball: On April 30 the Gaels were defeated by Kellenberg 12-2. Nikki DiTizio and Cristen Whigham both went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Alyssa Bavaro tossed a three-hitter and struck out eight.

On May 3 they were shutout 10-0 by Holy Trinity. Nikole Barbato went 4-for-4 with five RBI including a home run in the first inning for the Titans.

Boys Lacrosse: In their lone game of the week the Gaels were defeated 8-7 by Holy Trinity. Pat Doyle scored four goals, including the decisive goal in the game. Brian Lang also scored three goals.

Girls Lacrosse
: The girls fell to St. Dominic on May 3 by the score of 11-8. Julia LoRusso scored three goals and added three assists. Despite the loss, Alyssa James led all scores with five goals for the Gaels.
