These third- and fourth-grade girls, taking part in Port Youth Activities (PYA), are learning the ins and outs of the game of basketball from volunteer coaches and are refereed by Lady Vikings players from the Schreiber High School girls varsity team. This non-profit, charitable organization was formed to promote the exemplary development of local youth through participation in sports. PYA teaches teamwork and individual responsibility in an atmosphere of respect and sportsmanship. While an emphasis is placed on the development of sports skills, PYA's primary mission is to develop character and an understanding of how participation in sporting events can prepare the kids for success in all endeavors.
