Schreiber Girls Lacrosse Has High Hopes for Season

Varsity coaches and players say their goal is to win a conference title this year.

The Schreiber girls lacrosse team has put last season in the past and has set some lofty goals for this season. After finishing 3-13 last year, the Lady Vikings led by head coach Raquel Piraino and assistant coach Mary Romano have set the bar pretty high in 2010.

"Our team goal this year is to win a conference championship," Piraino said. "I am so excited to see what happens in the upcoming season."

Piraino said the team, which is composed of a nice mix of new and returning players, knows each other well both on and off the field. "They know what everyone's strengths and weakness's are," Piraino said. "That's how we will survive."

Junior Jackie Froccaro, one of the team's three captains, along with her cousin, fellow junior Alexa Froccaro and senior midfielder Ali Feldman, agreed. "We all have the same goal for the season — to win the conference!" said Jackie Froccaro, who splits time between midfield and attack and has been on the team since the ninth grade." Every game we play, our purpose is to give 110 percent."

The team will have its first opportunity to showcase its talents on Wednesday, March 24, at Schreiber High School at 4:45 p.m. in a non-league game against Island Trees High School.

Attacker Alexa Froccaro said it is sure to be a great season filled with ambition, drive, and plenty of wins. "We can't wait," she said. "This season is going to show the other teams what we're made of."
