Schreiber Softball Falls in Season Finale

Plethora of errors do in Lady Vikings in tough loss in last game of the season.

The Lady Vikings dug too big of a hole for themselves in their final game of the regular season against the Great Neck South Rebels last Friday.

Through the first four innings, the Lady Vikings trailed 12-3, thanks in part to seven fielding errors. Despite a valiant comeback, outscoring the Rebels, 7-1, in the final three innings, Schreiber fell, 13-10, to close outs its season.

"Again one slipped by," coach Eric Sutz said. "We didn't seem ready and focused early on."

Yet the Lady Vikings didn't give up without a fight. They loaded the bases in the seventh with no outs and pushed across two runs to get within three. But that's as close as Schreiber would get.

"We failed to deliver the key hit again," Sutz said. "It was a tough way to end after such a wonderful night on Thursday. We battled consistency issues all season and in the end they cost us. Too many games playing from behind."

The Lady Vikings finished their season with an 8-9 record in Conference AA-IV and 9-9 overall.

"I am proud of many of the personal and team accomplishments this season and I am dissapointed by many of the missed opportunities," Sutz said. "It will take dedication and hard work to continue to move this program along."
