Vikings Lacrosse Falls to Chiefs in County Championship
Massapequa rolls over Port Washington 16-3 in Nassau A Lacrosse final.
The past three times Massapequa has been in the Nassau County Lacrosse A Finals they have held a lead after the fourth quarter only to see it slip away.
Tuesday night was not the fourth time.
It would in fact be a night of fours, as the Chiefs would score four goals in each quarter.
“We promised each other that we would sell out for the fourth one and just leave it on the field and look out for us,” Chiefs goalie Wyatt Russo said after his team had faced Port Washington on the field at Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University.
The Oswego-bound Chiefs goalie made seven saves that night, allowing only three past his stick for the 16-3 win.
Massapequa junior attacker Ian Kirby and Paul Dilena each had a hat trick on the night while Paul Bentz and Scott Pemberton each added two to the cause.
Port Washington did not get on the board until 6:53 left in the half on a shot from sophomore midfielder Joey Froccaro. Senior attacker John Crowley was responsible for the other two Vikings goals.
“The kids knew from last year getting on that bus after we lost that it was, as their motto is, ‘unfinished business’ and from the get-go, we stayed under the radar this year and we played our hearts out every game,” Chiefs head coach Tim Radomski said.
Chiefs players Joe DeMarco, Nick Capuana and Russo were named MVPs.Massapequa will face either Smithtown West or Ward Melville on Wednesday night in the state tournament.
