North Hempstead’s 2014 Summer Film Series Begins in July

The free outdoors summer film series is coming soon to parks throughout the town.

North Hempstead's free outdoors summer film series is coming soon to parks throughout the town.

The first movie is set for Sunday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m. The movie “Matilda” will be shown indoors at Clinton G. Martin Park in New Hyde Park. The 1996 film, which was based on Roald Dahl’s novel of the same name, received critical acclaim worldwide.

On Tuesday, July 29, at 8:45 p.m., the film “Million Dollar Baby” will be screened at Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson. The film features Clint Eastwood and Hillary Swank, and won four academy awards, including Best Picture.

On Friday, Aug. 15, at 8 p.m., “The Rookie” will be at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park in New Cassel. The film, which stars Dennis Quaid, is about the true story of a high school teacher who makes it to the Major Leagues at the age of 40.

The last movie in the series will be on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 7:45 p.m. The movie “Frozen” will be screened at North Hempstead Beach Park, and it will be set up as an old-fashioned drive-in movie. The popular 2013 Disney movie won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, and the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film. Sit in your car or bring a lawn chair to watch the film.
