5 Things to Know About Seeing Saturday’s Opera at The Preserve

See Mozart's 'Impresario' at Castle Gould's Great Hall.

Here are five things to know about seeing summertime opera at Sands Point Preserve at Castle Gould’s Great Hall, which begins Saturday when the North Shore Music Festival performs Mozart’s Impresario

  1. Mozart’s one-act operatic comedy, composed for a musical competition in 1786 Vienna, makes fun of the theatrical impresario, Mr. Scruples, as he auditions a cast of feisty prima donnas.
  2. Mozart wrote the opera during what is considered to be an exceptionally creative period in his life. That same year he premiered “Le Nozze di Figaro.”
  3. There’s plenty of time to become familiar with the music, by viewing the overture, a soprano aria and a trio.
  4. Upcoming cultural arts programs at Sands Point Preserve include Verdi’s Rigoletto on Aug. 16; Broadway Showstoppers, a musical revue on on July 26 and Aug. 9.
  5. Tickets include cocktails and dinner at 7 p.m., the performance at 8 p.m., followed by dessert with the artists. The all inclusive ticket price is $85 per person/$75 with Friends Annual Pass. To purchase tickets, visit TheSandsPointPreserve.com, call 516-571-7901 or stop by the Gate House, 127 Middle Neck Road, Sands Point, open daily 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
