Dog Whisperer Kicks Off 16th Annual Pet Adoptathon

Cesar Milan joins North Shore Animal League America to help save the lives of homeless pets.

World-renowned Dog Whisperer, Cesar Milan, joined the North Shore Animal League America to kick off its premier global pet adoption event on Saturday to help save the lives of homeless pets. The 36-hour marathon event, dubbed the Pet Adoptathon®, featured fun for the entire family including performances by the Purina Incredible Dog Team, face painting, raffles, kids games, arts and crafts, balloon sculptures, an animal communicator, pet-related product vendors, spring plant sales, smoothies and even a coffee bar, all while spreading awareness of pet adoption and how important it is.

"Remember the hope and forgiveness that dogs give," Milan said. "Saving a dog is saving our lives as human beings."

The first Pet Adoptathon, in 1995, began as a North Shore Animal League America adoption event, with the goal of finding homes for each pet in the shelter. Encouraged by its success, the Animal League invited shelters worldwide to participate in the Pet Adoptathon. Sixteen years since its inception, more than 2,000 animal shelters around the world, including organizations in all 50 states and over 18 countries worldwide, have united with North Shore Animal League America, and as a result nearly 300,000 animals have found loving homes. Pet Adoptathon presenting sponsor is Purina ONE® with supporting sponsor BISSELL Homecare, Inc.
