Sands Point Mayor Honored by County Executive

Mayor Leonard Wurzel is commended for "outstanding" contributions to Nassau.

Village of Sands Point Mayor Leonard Wurzel, a longtime Sands Point resident and community activist, was recently recognized by County Executive Ed Mangano for his "outstanding" contributions to Nassau County.

The county executive spent Friday afternoon on a "listening tour" with a selected group of Port Washington civic and business leaders. At the start of the forum, the county executive singled out Mayor Wurzel for his dedication to Nassau, awarding him a certificate of commendation for his more than 50 years of service to the county.

"The county executive surprised me by giving me a beautiful certificate of commendation," Wurzel said. "I didn't know he was going to do that and I had never met him before. It was very nice and I thanked him for it." The mayor added, "I think he's off to a good start."
