Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service; The Nutcracker

Some happenings in and around Port Washington this week.

The Nutcracker: The Long Island Ballet Theatre presents the 27th annual The Nutcracker at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. This professional production boasts lavish costumes, intricate choreography and a cast of professional dancers from across the country and aspiring professionals from across Long Island. LIBT is celebrating 13 years at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater — a Thanksgiving weekend tradition. Showtimes: Saturday: 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. Ticket information here.

Knitting Group: The Project Independence knitting group meets Monday at the Port Washington Senior Center Monday from 9:30-11:30 p.m. The group is currently working on wheelchair lap covers and blankets for local nursing homes and veterans. Call 311 for more information.

Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service: Sponsored by the Clergy Association, the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service is a Port Washington tradition since 1940. This year's event is scheduled for Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. This year's host congregation is the St. Peter's church family and their pastoral team of Fr. Patrick Whitney, pastor; Sr. Peggy Tully, spiritual formation director; and, Deacon Frank D'Angelo, Esq. Clergy from most of Port's houses of worship join together in leading the service, a sign of unity amid diversity. The Thanksgiving message will be delivered by the Rev. Stuart Huntley, Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. A free-will offering shall be gathered and is designated for Friends of the Earth/Middle East and the Interfaith Nutritional Network in Hempstead. All are welcome to attend. More information

Thanksgiving Meets Chanukah Menorah Lighting: From 6-7 p.m. on Nov. 27 at the Long Island Rail Road Station in Port Washington. Kindling ceremony of 12-foot Menorah by the Chabad of Port Washington.
