Town Board Meeting; Spooky Walk Highlight Week

Some happenings in and around Port Washington this week.

Book Discussion: The Great Book Discussion Group meets at the Port Washington Public Library Monday. A discussion of Seneca’s On Tranquility of Mind starts at 1 p.m.

Town Board Meeting: The North Hempstead Town Board meets Tuesday at 7:30p.m. at Town Hall. A public hearing will take take place at the meeting regarding the adoption of an ordinance to establish parking restrictions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on school days to allow for school buses, on the east side of Highfield Avenue, north of Avenue C, in Port Washington. Spooky Walk: For three horror-filled nights and one not-so-hair raising afternoon, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, swamp monsters and their gruesome sidekicks will prowl the grounds of Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson. That's when orth Hempstead's Spooky Walk 2013 will unleash a witch's brew of fear and fright upon all who enter. Call 311 for all the spooky details. Runs from Oct. 24-27. Admission $5. Senior Halloween Bash: Sponsored by the Town of North Hempstead, the event runs Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Clinton G. Martin Park. Pizza, coffee, music, dancing and games scheduled. More information here.

Health Lecture: Also at the library this week, "21st Century Cancer" lecture. Dr. Mike Shodell will examine this new understanding of cancer at a fundamental level never before achievable, and the resultant new treatments now being developed. Sponsored by the Health Council. at 7:30 p.m.
