John J. Daly Elementary School opened in 1927. It houses the district's pre-kindergarten program as well as students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Many people in the community describe Daly as "the family school" or the most culturally diverse elementary school in the Port Washington School District. Its principal, Mrs. Elaine Ajello, is proud of both descriptions because they truly define what Daly is and what is important to the faculty, staff, and parents.

The school's mission is to bring the best possible education to all of its students through a culturally diverse learning community. Daly's faculty and staff work hard at understanding how each student learns and find innovative ways to deliver the curriculum so each child's yearly progress is monitored and celebrated. The school's mission statement also mentions meeting and exceeding the district and state learning standards along with recognizing the individuality of every child.
