Paul D. Schreiber High School represents the community of Port Washington, serving as a model of fine education practices, outstanding academic programs and excellence in teaching. As a result of Schreiber's fine academic standing, leadership and vision, it has been touted as one of the top 1,000 high schools in America, receiving high rankings each year in Newsweek's "The Complete List of the 1,000 Top U.S. Schools," and garnering accolades for its impressive number of Intel scholars. Schreiber High School prides itself in the wealth of clubs, activities and diversity of events that enrich our student body, faculty and community.

The school was built in 1953, and several additions were constructed in 1957 and 1967. In 2002, the school district passed a bond proposition in the sum of $24 million for the purpose of constructing a new gymnasium, a new library media center, 18 additional classrooms, expanded technology education classrooms, additional performing arts facilities, and an extension to the cafeteria. All of this was completed as of September 2004.

Within this highly competitive environment, 24 advanced placement courses are offered. There are, as well, honors courses and the honors option to motivate its students. Similarly, there is an outstanding athletic program and co-curricular program encompassing intramurals, drama, mock trials, student government, music, fine arts and several volunteer and service organizations, in total 40 clubs and 44 inter-scholastic teams.

In keeping with the comprehensive nature of the high school program, there is an extensive array of programs and courses to assist our students. These efforts include resource rooms, inclusion classes, laboratory classes for extra help, The Freshman Learning Community, the STEPS alternative education program and Academic Intervention Services. Block scheduling concepts also have enabled us to enhance the quality of instruction and effective use of instructional time. These efforts are supplemented with student tutoring during the school day, before school and after school.
