In case you hadn't heard, the New York Giants won the NFL championship Sunday night after defeating the New England Patriots, 21-17. While New England natives were out rioting [video], Giants fans were busy celebrating, collecting their championship gear and getting ready for Tuesday's parade in New York City. 1. Heading to the 11 a.m. Giants victory parade that starts at Battery Place? The Long Island Rail Road is adding trains to the Port Washington line. There will be an extra train leaving Great Neck at 9:50 a.m. After the parade, the LIRR will add a 3:18 p.m. train, stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main Street, then all stops to Port Washington. Bollywood dancing, a book drive and perfect bowlers.
Some of the news from communities around Long Island this week. Spreading Indian Culture Herricks Middle School plays host to a different sort of class and courseload as was children and parents bustled about the building’s halls being taught dance moves by the Young Indian Culture Group. The YICG was formed in 1994 when Executive Director Rathi Raja, President Urmila Shivaram, Treasurer Vasundhara Sureka and Secretary Runi Ratnam came together in order to create a more structural basis for celebrating Indian culture. The group teaches a variety of 55 classes every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m at the middle school, some of which include teaching, Hindi, Cooking, Tabla and Bollywood Dance among others.
