Public tasters name Bagel Boss No. 1 soup maker, but judges like Louie's best.
SOUPer Bowl IV took place at the United Methodist Church on Saturday. It drew a crowd of more than 600 people, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Twin Pine food pantry. Louie’s Oyster Bar and Grille won the Judges’ Choice Award for its New England Clam Chowder andBagel Boss Café won the People’s Choice Award for its Tomato Bisque with Mozzarella. A close second place, by both the Judges and the People, went to La Bottega for its Cream of Portabella and Porcini Soup. The third choice of the Judges' went to Bagel Boss Cafe and the third choice of the People went to thePort Washington Diner for its Greek Lemon Soup.

The Community Chest of Port Washington selects Leonard Wurzel for its annual honor.
Sands Point Mayor Leonard Wurzel added another feather to his cap, as the Community Chest of Port Washington named him its "Citizen of the Year" during an awards ceremony at the Community Synagogue. The Citizen of the Year Award honors outstanding volunteer service on behalf of the residents of Port Washington. Wurzel is its 39th recipient. Community Chest Vice President Nancy Cowles presented the award on April 14, noting that Wurzel had to be asked twice before he would agree to accept the honor. "Leonard is well-liked," Cowles said. "As a clam digger, that's an original Port Washington person, said to me, 'What a good choice. Leonard is one of the good guys.'" The Community Chest of Port Washington is now accepting grant applications from non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organizations that provide social, health or educational services to the community of Port Washington. Grant applications are due on or before Friday, March 26. Today, the Community Chest supports more than 20 organizations that help Port Washington residents.
