Question Of The Day: Blumenfeld's Contributions

How many spots in Port Washington does your family enjoy, thanks to efforts spearheaded by Blumenfeld?

As highlighted Monday, the influences of Myron Blumenfeld resonate throughout town. This much was evident when he was honored by The Community Chest of Port Washington as Citizen of the Year. Walk along on Main Street, and you'll happen upon Blumenfeld Park. Strollers along Bay Walk – a portion of which was once a municipal parking lot – can enjoy the view of Manhasset Bay, thanks to the efforts of Blumenfeld and others. He is credited with planting most of the trees on Port Washington Boulevard, Main Street and Shore Road, according to Residents for A More Beautiful Port Washington, a group that he helped found.  In working with Residents and other groups and individuals, Blumenfeld was a driving force in battling the building of an …

Blumenfeld Is Community Chest's Citizen of The Year

Mike Blumenfeld was honored for his many contributions to Port Washington.

Around town, Myron "Mike" Blumenfeld is known as a “nudge,” a “curmudgeon.” But he’s also considered Port Washington’s “environmental conscious,” a “catalyst for change,” and a “generous” man who “doesn’t see something that needs fixing,” but rather someone who “sees the finished product." In other words, a visionary. In what he laughingly referred to as his eulogy, Mike Blumenfeld was honored Monday as the Community Chest of Port Washington’s Citizen of the Year 2011. The event at Port Washington Public Library was standing-room only. Blumenfeld was recognized for a lifetime of outstanding volunteer service. A Port Washington resident since 1965, Blumenfeld is known for his environmental contributions – many of Port’s local parks and …

Julie will be a great asset to the Community Chest but we will really miss her work and dedication to the Port Washington Youth Council and the PiT at Landmark. I've had the pleasure of working with her at the Youth Council and she's just been incredible. The Community Chest's gain is the Youth Council's loss. Good luck Julie!   more ›
