Dogwood tree is first of 300 to be planted by Town of North Hempstead.
Local Manhasset Cub Scouts teamed up with the Town of North Hempstead to plant a dogwood tree in Mary Jane Davies Park in honor of Earth Day. The tree is the first of 300 the Town plans on planting in honor of the green holiday.

Hundreds from the community worked together with the Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington to plant, clean, and make Port Washington a more beautiful place.
Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington had their work cut out for them on Saturday during their 2nd annual "Clean Green Zone" event as more than 300 residents, government officials, and several organizations alike worked together to help clean up the streets of Port Washington. Mariann Dalmonte, the Director of Development for the Residents of a More Beautiful Port Washington, as well as Executive Director Mindy Germaine and Chairman Curt Trinko were the brilliant masterminds behind the quest to make Port Washington's streets shine. Renovated courtyard at middle school expands the learning environment for students.
It's a question asked of teachers seemingly forever: "Can we have class outside today?" At Weber Middle School, the question can be finally be answered with a resounding, "Yes!" The school held a dedication ceremony on Earth Day this Thursday to unveil its new outdoor classroom. The area was born out of the school's Flower Hill courtyard, with work having been completed this past fall. The open-air space will be used for a wide array of subjects with one goal in common: give students a change of pace from the usual "four walls and a blackboard" classroom setting.
