Athlete of the Week: Jake Froccaro

Jake Froccaro verbally commits to Princeton and expects to play lacrosse there after graduating in 2012.

In the past two years, Schreiber High School has graduated a student-athlete who goes on to play at Princeton University. Jake Froccaro, a junior, plans to continue the legacy when he graduates in 2012. Froccaro recently made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse for the Princeton Tigers. "The opportunity to get an Ivy League education, be very close to home and play alongside my brother is something I could not pass up," Froccaro said. "Overall, I think Princeton was jut the perfect fit for me both academically and athletically. I can't wait to be a Tiger in a few years." Jake Froccaro Wins Lacrosse Gold In Empire Games

Helps Long Island beat Central, 7-6, in the victory.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jake Froccaro was all smiles as Empire State Games lacrosse chairman Chuck Cohen hung a gold medal around the Port Washington rising junior's neck. It culminated a mad 40 hours of haze, uncertainty and ultimately, redemption for the lacrosse star. Froccaro was the lynchpin for Long Island throughout the six-game tournament, a FOGO (faceoff, get off) specialist whose skill and tenacity in the faceoff circle determined which team got the ball and went on the offensive. It was Long Island, more often than not. His presence on Sunday helped secure a 7-6 win over the previously undefeated Central region in the gold medal game. "That was special," Fraccaro said. Jake Frocarro Selected to LI Empire Lacrosse Team

Will look to help Long Island win fifth straight gold medal at Empire State Games.

A sense of pride and passion swirled through the second floor of Hofstra University's Margiota Hall on Friday night. The final selections of this year's Empire State Games Long Island lacrosse team met together for the first time. Schreiber High School's Jake Frocarro was among those selected and is one of only two sophomores on the team. Thirty players were selected out of 712 that tried out. Twenty will make the final roster of players who will travel to Buffalo July 21-25, 10 will remain alternates. "We're excited about this group of guys who will represent Long Island and the legacy," said Long Island head coach Jay Mauro, referring to a Long Island club that has won seven of the last nine Empire Gold Medals, including four straight." …
