The team ranks top in their division in the Yale Bulldog Bash.
When seven boys who played lacrosse together since elementary school found themselves this summer without having a travel team to play on, they didn't know what to do. At the same time, the Manhasset Maveriks Junior Varsity team was about to fold because they didn't have enough boys for their town team. Word got out that the Maveriks team was short players, and the Port group contacted Manhasset varsity coach Bill Cherry. They decided to combine players from both towns. With the help of the seven boys from Port, the Maveriks completed a successful summer tournament season by winning their division in the Yale Bulldog Bash on July 16. Participating on the team were rising 9th graders Zach Avazis, Luke Cummings, Conor Jenkinson, John Neil, …

With a 16-7 win, Port Washington advances to the Class A Girls Lacrosse Semifinals.
Port Washington girls lacrosse (14-3) defeated the Long Beach Marines (12-5) at Schreiber High School Thursday in the Nassau County Class A Quarter-Finals. With Long Beach out of the playoffs, Port Washington advances to play Massapequa on Thursday. The game didn't seem like it would be a blow-out from the very beginning. At the 13:00 mark of the first half, the score was tied 2-2. Port Washington quickly took control, scoring three goals over Long Beach before the six-minute mark. Now 5-2, Long Beach scored one more goal and the Vikings scored two. Seconds before halftime, Long Beach's Molly Martin tried to rush the ball down the field for a goal, but was checked. At the half, Port Washington had a 7-3 lead. Unfortunately for Long …

Froccaro, Crowley score three goals each in home game.
Tuesday may have been the best weather day thus far in 2011, but it was not enough for the Port Washington Vikings boys' lacrosse team to prevail on the field. The Vikings were throttled at Paul D. Schreiber High School when they faced the unbeaten Farmingdale Daelers, to the tune of 14-8. It was not nearly as close as the score board would indicate. The Daelers have widely been regarded as one of the best lacrosse programs in the past 15 years on the Island, and it seemed like early on Port was unsure about its ability to compete with them. Vikings goaltender was bombarded with shots from the start, and made many crucial saves before finally buckling against the relentless Farmingdale attack. Sal Tuttle of Farmingdale would be the first …

Jake Froccaro verbally commits to Princeton and expects to play lacrosse there after graduating in 2012.
In the past two years, Schreiber High School has graduated a student-athlete who goes on to play at Princeton University. Jake Froccaro, a junior, plans to continue the legacy when he graduates in 2012. Froccaro recently made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse for the Princeton Tigers. "The opportunity to get an Ivy League education, be very close to home and play alongside my brother is something I could not pass up," Froccaro said. "Overall, I think Princeton was jut the perfect fit for me both academically and athletically. I can't wait to be a Tiger in a few years." "We are so proud of Jake Froccaro on his verbal commitment to Princeton University," said Joe Mascaretti, the Vikings' varsity lacrosse coach. "It was a long hard …

Helps Long Island beat Central, 7-6, in the victory.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Jake Froccaro was all smiles as Empire State Games lacrosse chairman Chuck Cohen hung a gold medal around the Port Washington rising junior's neck. It culminated a mad 40 hours of haze, uncertainty and ultimately, redemption for the lacrosse star. Froccaro was the lynchpin for Long Island throughout the six-game tournament, a FOGO (faceoff, get off) specialist whose skill and tenacity in the faceoff circle determined which team got the ball and went on the offensive. It was Long Island, more often than not. His presence on Sunday helped secure a 7-6 win over the previously undefeated Central region in the gold medal game. "That was special," Fraccaro said. "We have such great relationships on this team. It was great to win …

Will look to help Long Island win fifth straight gold medal at Empire State Games.
A sense of pride and passion swirled through the second floor of Hofstra University's Margiota Hall on Friday night. The final selections of this year's Empire State Games Long Island lacrosse team met together for the first time. Schreiber High School's Jake Frocarro was among those selected and is one of only two sophomores on the team. Thirty players were selected out of 712 that tried out. Twenty will make the final roster of players who will travel to Buffalo July 21-25, 10 will remain alternates. "We're excited about this group of guys who will represent Long Island and the legacy," said Long Island head coach Jay Mauro, referring to a Long Island club that has won seven of the last nine Empire Gold Medals, including four straight." …

Members of the Schreiber girls varsity lacrosse team rack up post-season awards.
Despite losing in the Nassau County Class A semifinals to the Farmingdale Lady Dalers, the Schreiber Lady Vikings lacrosse team has a lot to be proud of this season. The team went undefeated during the regular season and claimed the Conference III title — its first conference title in a decade. "I think they've exceeded our expectations and goals," Lady Vikings head coach Raquel Piraino said. "We were 2-12 and 3-13 in the two previous seasons, so when you go and turn that around to a 15-1-1 record you can't be anything but overly excited about the turnaround … We won our conference, which hasn't been done since 2000, and we haven't been to the semis in five years. As far as all the positives, that one loss is nothing compared to what we've…

Farmingdale’s big first half too much for Schreiber to overcome in county semis.
The fifth-seeded Schreiber Lady Vikings were 15-0-1 heading into Tuesday's semifinal matchup with the top-seeded Farmingdale Lady Dalers. But their dream season came to an end as Farmingdale took down the Lady Vikings by a score of 20-8. Junior captain Jackie Froccaro got things started with a goal just over a minute into the game to give Schreiber its only lead of the day at 1-0. But it was all down hill after Froccaro's goal. The Lady Dalers responded with an unbelievable 12 straight goals in 12 minutes of play, and led 15-2 at halftime. "We showed up in the second half," Schreiber head coach Raqual Piraino said after the Vikings' only loss this season. "I think they just capitalized off a lot of our mistakes in the first half." …

Sailors no match for well-balanced Schreiber attack and goalie Samantha Tilts.
The Schreiber Lady Vikings varsity lacrosse team improved to 15-0-1 on Wednesday and showed that they were more than ready for the playoffs by defeating the Oceanside Sailors, 17-10, at Oceanside High School. The playoff atmosphere was set by a large and raucous crowd and a very rough first half which saw the No. 4 seeded Sailors receive three separate yellow cards. The first half was as back-and-forth as it gets and featured four lead changes. Junior goalie Samantha Tilts made several key saves to keep the game close for fifth-seeded Schreiber, and junior captain Alexa Froccaro had three goals to end the half tied at 5. But two bad penalties, including a slash which injured sophomore sensation Christina Commons, gave the Lady Vikings a …
