Sousa Grads Leave Their Legacy on the School

The Sousa fifth-grade class created this year's spring art project, leaving their mark on their now-former elementary school.

Sousa Elementary School is adorned inside and out with artwork done by the children, organized by parent volunteers and facilitated by the school's art teacher Steven Moore. This year's project, created by the graduating fifth-grade class to leave behind a historic and creative piece of themselves, was a series of lit up, glass relief sculptures affixed to the school lobby's wall displaying a gifted bell from the Merchant Marines. Spring is in the Air at the Hempstead House

A family day of learning and fun at Hempstead House celebrates the first day of spring.

Port Washington resident Dorit Zeevi-Farrington and her eight-year-old daughter Noa soaked up the sun at a Gold Coast mansion tour of Hempstead House to celebrate the first day of spring last weekend.   "I feel lucky to have the Hempstead House in my backyard and I hope that the Sands Point Preserve is able to raise enough funds to bring the interior space back to its old grandeur," Zeevi-Farrington said. "The upstairs master bedroom was magnificent and so spacious. It was definitely one of the best rooms in the house and I loved how all the windows were overlooking the Long Island Sound. But the house …

Lady Vikings Optimistic About Upcoming Season

Experience and healthy pitching could lead to conference contention this spring.

The temperatures are rising, the fields are thawing, and the bats and gloves have been unpacked. Spring season at Schreiber High School has arrived, and the softball team is preparing for the 2010 campaign. Coach Eric Sutz brings back an experienced group featuring eight returning players, and a ninth whose return could thrust the Lady Vikings to new heights. Pitcher Danielle Liebowitz returns for her senior season after missing all of 2009 with a broken, non-throwing elbow. Sutz said her return to the mound already puts the team miles ahead of where they were a year ago. "[Her injury] left us with nobody with any pitching experience at all," Sutz said. "We went into the season with nobody who'd ever pitched in a varsity or JV game. That …
