Under Mayor Michael T. Meehan's direction, a new veterans monument was constructed outside Manorhaven Village Hall.
The U.S. Marine Corps, veterans from Foreign War Post No. 1819 and American Legion Post No. 509, as well as other local vets came out as part of Manorhaven's Veterans Appreciation Day last Saturday. Mayor Michael T. Meehan led the ceremony highlighted by the rededication of a new Veteran's Memorial Plaque in its proper position of importance in front of Manorhaven Village Hall. "It was covered by brush and barely readable. Now 60 years later, we are giving this plaque a proper home." Foreign War Post No. 1819 Commander John Chalker reminded everyone that it was …

Plans for solar panels on Village Hall and better garbage cleanup take the spotlight as a new budget is passed.
The Village of Sands Point Board of Trustees have decided to enlist the village in the green movement. At a Tuesday meeting, the board unanimously approved installing solar panels made by company Green Logic on the roof of the Village Hall. Construction is expected to begin this summer. The change is meant to cut costs and to convert Village Hall into a more energy-conscious structure. "The solar panels are effective, energy efficient and will save us money in the long run," said Marc Silbert, who serves as a trustee and as the village's building commissioner. "It will show that the village is concerned about conserving energy." The total cost of the project is expected to be about $31,000, however, about $13,000 of the total cost will be …

However, in these difficult fiscal times, continuing that lease was simply too costly for the village. We decided not to renew the lease and determined instead to use the village's "Ashwood Road Property" across the street, for the present, to accommodate the needs of our Highway Department. Under our inter-municipal agreement with the Town of …

The Port Washington Office of Emergency Management launched the NorthShoreAlert mass notification platform to enhance local communication and preparedness.
The Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Management (PWM OEM) launched NorthShoreAlert, a region-wide mass notification system, on Friday at a morning press conference at Sands Point Village Hall. Commissioner Peter Forman from the PWM OEM said that this alert system will cover the Port Washington Peninsula, which includes Port Washington and portions of Manhasset, serving approximately 38,000 residents. The system allows for local officials can send voice, text, e-mail and TTY/TDD messages to residents, businesses, and local agencies in just minutes or seconds. "This system can advise people of emergencies, such as flooding as well as non-emergencies, such as upcoming elections," Forman said. "We have eight villages involved, …
