Bosworth Proposes New N. Hempstead Finance Director Position

Aline Khatchadourian nominated as North Hempstead's finance director at a cost of $132,000 annually to taxpayers.

Aline Khatchadourian has been chosen to serve as North Hempstead finance director, a newly-created position proposed by Supervisor-elect Judi Bosworth.

Khatchadourian, a certified public accountant, has served as director of finance for the Nassau County Legislature's minority caucus for the past two years.

Expected to make $1,000 less in 2014 than Bosworth, Khatchadourian's proposed salary will be $132,000, according to a North Hempstead spokesman.

In her role, Khatchadourian will oversee the development and administration of the town budget, the capital plan, capital financing, internal and external auditing, performance metrics and strategic and multi-year financial plans, according to Bosworth.

“Her multi-faceted fiscal experience and depth of knowledge will help ensure the continued stability of town finances,” said Bosworth in a statement Monday.

Khatchadourian previously served in a number of fiscal positions with Nassau County, including deputy budget director, acting deputy county treasurer and deputy comptroller for audit and special projects.

Khatchadourian was elected to two terms as a member of the Board of Education of the Manhasset School District. She holds an M.S. in accounting from Pace University and graduated from Marist College with a B.A. in finance.

The Democrat-controlled town board approved this month significant pay increases for nearly all North Hempstead elected officials.

In another new role created by Bosworth, Robert Troiano Jr., also currrently employed by the Nassau Legislature, was chosen as the town's new director of operations. The yearly salary for the position will be $132,000, according to town offcials.

All of Bosworth's new staff appointments will be fully taxpayer-funded by off-setting 2014 budget expenditure reductions which include staff reductions, retirements and restructuring, according to town officials.

The new appointees will be considered by the town board at its Jan. 2 meeting.

Inauguration is set for Jan. 5 in North Hempstead.
