BOE Meets Briefly, Early on Tuesday

Board of Education holds special meeting at administration building in Port Washington.

In an early morning meeting lasting less than 10 minutes, the Port Washington Board of Education met Tuesday at the district administration building.

Meeting at 7:30 a.m., the school board approved the following items with little to no discussion:

  • The appointment of Sheryl Haimovich as per diem interim principal, Daly Elementary School, at the per diem rate of $700. Haimovich may only earn $30,000 unless and until she receives a waiver in accordance with the retirement and social security law, according to the BOE.
  • The Stipulation of Agreement between Dr. Kathleen Mooney and the Port Washington Union Free School District, dated Aug. 2, 2013.
  • A salary increase for all non-aligned staff for the 2013/2014 school year.
  • The increase of the confidential secretaries’ stipends by $1000 each effective July 1, 2013.
  • The stipend of $5000 for the position of District Clerk for the 2013/2014 school year.
  • The stipend of $1500 for the position of Deputy District Clerk for the 2013/2014 school year.
  • The resignation of the following instructional staff: Matthew Furey, elementary teacher, Salem, effective Sept. 1, 2013 b. Erin Jacob, art teacher, Schreiber, effective Sept. 1, 2013.
  • The appointment of the following instructional staff: Jena Swerdloff, elementary teacher, Salem, $63,455 effective Sept. 1, 2013.
  • The appointment of the following part-time instructional staff: Deisha DeFelippis, .8 Reading Teacher, Daly/Guggenheim $53,752 (80 percent of $67,190 MA Step 2) effective Sept. 1, 2013.
  • The childcare leave of absence of the following instructional staff: Nina Evans, elementary teacher, Manorhaven, effective Sept. 1, 2013.
  • The leave coverage appointment of the following instructional staff: Benjamin Benfield, art teacher, Schreiber, $63,455 (MA Step 1) effective Sept. 1, 2013; Lisa Idol, elementary teacher, Manorhaven, $66,288 (MA+15 Step 1) effective Sept. 1, 2013; Anna Valentino-Terrado, foreign language teacher, Schreiber, $63,455 (MA Step 1) effective Sept. 1, 2013.
  • The appointment of the following teacher mentors for the 2013/2014 school year, effective Sept. 1, 2013 through Sept. 30, 2014, for a total compensation not to exceed $1725 with the recommendation of the superintendent: Mentors Louise Lindemann (foreign language) and Kris Murphy (art).
  • The resignation for the purpose of retirement of the following non-instructional staff: Catherine Ogrudek, educational assistant, Sousa, effective Sept. 28, 2013.
  • The resignation of the following non-instructional staff: Rene Leon-Mendez, Cleaner, Salem, effective Aug, 8, 2013.
