Girls Soccer Unbeaten in Conference Play With Win Over Long Beach

The Port Washington girls soccer team put together a solid second half defeating rival Long Beach Wednesday at Schreiber.

The win was the fifth straight for the Vikings who sit at the top of Conference AA-2 tied with Hicksville at 3-0-1 (5-1-1 overall).

Top performers for Port Washington were Olivia Fetherston with one goal and one assist; Casey Cybriwsky and Olivia Ressa with one goal each; Rachel Rosen and Kimmy Zhirzhan each with an asstst; and goalie Michele Lammers with four saves.

"Last year it came down to the last minute and we lost by one goal, so this was a big game," said Lammers.

Lammers said the team wasn't playing at game speed in the scoreless first half with Long Beach beating  the Vikings to every ball. Port Washington outscored its opponent 3-1 in the second half to take control of the game.

For Long Beach, Melissa Rubin scored a goal and goalie Shauna Spruiell had seven saves.

Next up for Port Washington is a match Sept. 27 at unbeaten Plainview (2-0-1) in conference, 5-0-1 overall).
