Port Football Coach Honored by Jets

Jamel Ramsey named coach of the week.

Schreiber Head Football Coach Jamel Ramsay has been named recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. 

In honor of the winning coach, the school will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program and Ramsay will be presented with a certificate from the Jets, the team announced this week.

On Saturday, the Vikings (6-0) defeated previously unbeaten Roslyn, 21-7.

For the past 18 years, the Jets have presented the weekly award to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.

Now in his third year, Ramsay has an overall record of 13-9 at Port Washington. 

Ramsay was a four-year player on Long Island University C.W. Post’s football team, serving as the captain during his senior season. After earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 2007, Ramsay started his coaching career as an assistant to the wide receivers coach at C.W. Post.
