Two Hour Parking Meter Limit Approved For Main Street

Town Board OKs plan at Tuesday meeting.

The Town of North Hempstead agreed on Tuesday to allow a two hour parking meter limit for Main Street in Port Washington.

The adoption of the local law by the Town Board will allow two hour time limitations in certain locations and modify the location subject to the four hour parking restriction in the Port Washington Public Parking District, according to the resolution.

All meters on Main Street will be changed, plus some meters on Irma and Haven Avenues.

One hour meter limits currently exist at most locations downtown causing Main Street visitors to frequently return to their vehicles to insert more change. The new rule will allow shoppers and guests to linger longer at Port Washington locations.

"This is good news for our residents and businesses in Port Washington," said Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio on her Facebook page.
