The tunnel and tracks used by LIRR are owned by Amtrak, which operates at a loss and has just started lobbying Congress for $2 billion for capital infrastructure next year. Republicans have already said they're not going to get it.
The 'bigger problem' is a lack of consistent political support for these rail operations, which lose money on an operating revenue basis. Infrastructure will continue to deteriorate, and maintenance cut back, and service will suffer.

This town needs some new blood - no more Japanese or pizza restaurants. Make it worthwhile for investors and entrepreneurs to open retail and restaurants. How about a Houston's or equivalent on northern blvd. vintage grapes, the PW diner, Alpers HW (not paint), Aki are some of the local businesses I like patronizing because they are ethical, quality-minded and price competitive. Shields price gouges, the eyeglass store on main cannot get pricing right, amigos/Finn Mac/Sullivan's/most others on main st are just plain inedible. I have no idea how all the other stores even stay in business.
