Lennon’s Pub Showcases Port Washington Musician

Local resident Jason Treuman performs Tuesday night.

He's opened for the Allman Brothers, according to Jason Treuman's webpage, and shared the stage with such names as Big and Rich, The Drifters, The Platters, David Bryan of Bon Jovi, and Cowboy Troy of the Music Mafia. He’s recorded as a studio musician with Marty Stuart, Reese Wynans, Lee Roy Parnell, Bekka Bramlett, and the Memphis Horns. Now Treuman has returned to his native Long Island, and will showcase his talents locally at , starting at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.

According to Barbara Lennon, owner of Lennon’s, Treuman’s reputation as a musician was the impetus for the live show. “It was a spur of the moment decision really,” said Lennon, who added that if pub-goers like the show, she’d consider having Treuman return regularly. “We used to have bands here,” said Lennon, “but haven’t lately. I think it’s always a good idea to change things around.”

What to expect from Treuman’s show? He is a multi-instrumentalist – playing guitar, bass, drums, piano, keyboards, and percussion, but the Lennon’s show will be an acoustic performance with vocals.

“Hopefully if the show goes well and I am invited back, I will be able to bring my three piece blues/R&B band in to play,” Treuman said.

When asked to describe his style, Treuman had trouble pinning it down. “For the last 10 years or so, I've been mainly a ‘for hire’ player. One night I could be playing bass for a country act, and the next be fronting a blues band singing and playing guitar. But for my personal stuff that I write for myself, I'd have to say currently most of it has a soul/R&B feel to it. R&B and soul, like Motown and whatnot, are my favorites, so I think that influence is noticeable in my writing and playing.”

Treuman spent many years in Nashville, working as a studio and paid musician. He recounted getting to play with a personal hero – Reese Wynans, keyboard player for the late Stevie Ray Vaughn.

“A little back story,” Treuman said. “When I was 15 and listening to rock and metal and whatever was popular, I heard the last record Stevie Ray Vaughn did before he tragically died. It was my first introduction to blues and I vividly remember it giving me chills hearing it and feeling it. It changed my life forever and sent me down the path to some great musical experiences. It changed me as a person and a player forever.”

Treuman met Wynans years before, when they both were playing a studio session for a client. Then, six months ago, when Treuman was working on his own solo record, he asked Wynans to sit in. “To have Reese donate his talents to my recordings was truly priceless,” said Treuman. “I had one of the greatest days ever getting to spend some time with him and getting to hear him on my songs. It gives me goosebumps again just thinking about it.”

As for the Lennon’s gig, expect a good time, Treuman says.

“It's a very relaxed environment, good vibes at Lennon's," he said. "Hopefully a lot of familiar faces come out for a drink or two and just unwind and have a little fun on a Tuesday night. I'll just provide the soundtrack to the evening. I'm going to play something for everybody, a little blues, rock, country... whatever. I'll also have a few musical friends showing up to sing a little as well. And I'd invite anyone up who wants to sing something. Bottom line is, we all want to laugh, have fun and hear some good music and hopefully that's what will happen.”

Sounds like a sure bet.
