Community Chest Now Accepting 2014 Grant Applications

The Community Chest of Port Washington is  now accepting grant applications for funding, from nonprofit 501 (c) 3 charitable organizations that provide services Port Washington residents.  Community Chest grants support local programs for senior citizens, children, teenagers, and others in need--programs serve approximately 8,000 Port Washington residents and help more than one in four Port Washington residents.

The application is available on-line at www.portchest.org, or by calling the Community Chest office at (516) 767-2121.   The deadline for submission is April 7, 2014.  Grant funds provided by the Community Chest can be used for general operating support or specific program support, but not for capital items.

Criteria used to evaluate applications include the need for services in Port Washington, the number of Port Washingtonians served, the need for funds, the ability of the applicant to deliver the services, and the fiscal management and stability of the organization.  Applications are reviewed and interviews are conducted in April and May by a committee of the Community Chest.  Decisions are finalized, and organizations are notified of results in July 2014.
