MTA: Half-Hourly Weekend Service Restored on Port Washington Branch

The revised weekend service features an additional 32 trains on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Mass Transit Authority has restored half-hourly weekend service to Penn Station on the Port Washington branch of the Long Island Rail Road.

The change went into effect Nov. 16. The revised weekend service features an additional 32 trains on Saturdays and Sundays.

The change brings LIRR service levels to those last last offered in September 2010, according to the MTA.

In 2010, half-hourly service during off-peak hours and on weekends was cut to hourly service as part of a larger MTA initiative to close a $900 million budget gap, according to the MTA.

The restoration of 30 minute service on weekdays was accomplished in May 2012.
