A list of upcoming Port Washington Library offerings.

Art Lecture: "Virtual Visits: The Brooklyn Museum." Ines Powell will be your guide for this “tour.” Sponsored by the Friends of the Library at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Film Discussion: "A Look at Contemporary Israel Through Cinema": Professor Valerie Franco will screen and discuss part one of Miri Ezra’s miniseries, A Touch Away (2006), a modern-day Russian-Israeli Romeo and Juliet story. In Hebrew, Russian and English, with English subtitles. Start time: 7 p.m. on Monday.

Defensive Driving Course Registration: Sign up Tuesday for August 10 defensive driving class for all ages. Those who complete the course may be eligible for a 10 percent discount on vehicle liability, personal injury protection and collision insurance premiums for three years and a reduction of four points from driving record. Admission of $28 payable to Empire Safety Council due at registration. Cash will not be accepted. Late arrivals will not be admitted or fee refunded.

Health Screening: A free hypertension screening will be offered by St. Francis Hospital. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Lecture: "Sandwiched In: Paris – A Movable, Musical Feast": Painters, poets and cultural prophets have always come together in this fabled city, and the rest of the world has followed suit. In 1889, even far-away Java came to the World Expo in Paris, inspiring Debussy with the sounds of the gamelan in the first public exchange between East and West. Strolling down any boulevard you might encounter Monet, Picasso, Pizarro, Hemingway, Cocteau or Stravinsky. Let pianists and Masterwork Conversationalists Matthew Harrison and Vlada Yaneva be your guides through this musical feast. Runs Friday at 12:10 p.m.

Resume/Cover Letter Workshop: 
A resume and cover letter preparation workshop will be offered Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Workshop is free, but registration is required at the reference desk or by calling 883-4400, Ext. 111.
