Stephen Labate Announces Candidacy For Congress

Military veteran hopes to unseat Rep. Steve Israel in 2014.

Republican Stephen Labate of Deer Park today announced his candidacy in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

A financial advisor and Iraq War veteran from Deer Park, Labate was defeated by Rep. Steve Israel, (D-Huntington), in 2012.

“The status quo in Washington is simply unacceptable," said Labate in a press release. "As a soldier and a financial advisor, I want to represent Long Islanders in the 3rd Congressional District and challenge my fellow representatives to uphold their duty."

Running against what he calls Rep. Israel's lack of accomplishments in nearly seven terms in the House of Representatives, Labate said he hopes to provide the type of leadership Long Islanders deserve.

"After 12 years in office, Steve Israel has introduced 245 bills and only two have become law and they were for the renaming of post offices," said Labate.

Israel's term expires in December of 2014.

The 3rd Congressional District encompasses parts of Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as Queens, New York.
