Body Identified in Apparent Accidental Homicide

Police officials say it appears that the victim slipped and struck her head before drowning.

The body found floating in Manhasset Bay on Saturday afternoon has been identified as Jeanne Wilde, 57, of Matinecock Avenue, by The Sixth Squad and the Nassau County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said the cause of death is undetermined, pending further investigation by the Medical Examiner's Office, but that the investigation preliminarily points to an accidental homicide. Police officials explained that it appears possible that the victim may have slipped and struck her head.

On Feb. 13 at 2:19 p.m., a passerby discovered the body floating in Manhasset Bay off Manhasset Isle between an icy landing and a houseboat located on Matinecock Avenue. The 57-year-old Caucasian female was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 p.m.
