Teen Robbed at Gunpoint in Valley Stream

A 15-year-old was robbed in Valley Stream late Tuesday night after a
suspect pulled a handgun and demanded the victim’s valuables,
according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The victim was walking down Putnam Avenue in Valley Stream at 10:32 p.m. when the gunman demanded the victim’s valuable items, police said. The gunman was able to obtain an unknown amount of money and a cell phone from the victim. The man fled the scene in his vehicle, heading south on Putnam Avenue, police said. No injuries were reported from this incident.

Rockville Centre Public Official Thwarts Car Thief

An administrator for the Village of Rockville Centre thwarted a
would-be burglar on his way home from a fireworks show on July 9.
Frank Quigley confronted the man who was attempting to break into a van in a parking field in Rockville Centre, and he fled. Quigley
called the police while he chased the man. Cops searched through
several backyards and captured him.

Gregory P. Schroeder, 40, of Freeport, was arrested and charged with
criminal mischief, attempted larceny, possession of burglar tools and
criminal possession of a controlled substance. Schroeder is a parolee
for burglary.

Appearance tickets were issued to four males age 17 from Garden City for harassment on July 6 after they intentionally threw eggs from a moving vehicle striking a 33-year-old victim who was riding his bike on Newmarket Road causing him to receive a minor injury to his leg. A youth under the age of 16 was also cited.

Two appearance tickets were issued for failure to comply with village
regulations regarding door-to-door solicitations.

Murder-Suicide in Flushing

An apparent murder-suicide claimed the lives of a 51-year-old Queens woman and a Manhattan man in Flushing Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Lori Eng, of Flushing, was discovered just after 5 p.m. by police in
front of 142-46 56th Road, which is near New York Hospital Queens. She had two gunshots to the torso, police said.

David Chea, 55, of Manhattan, was also found with a gunshot to head, police said.

Both Eng and Chea were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, but police said the
shooting appeared to be a murder-suicide.

A .38-caliber firearm was recovered by police at the scene.

Larceny in Lynbrook

Police said an elderly couple were victim of a larceny in Lynbrook
early Saturday evening after a man sought entry into their home under the guise of fixing their roof. According to detectives, a man knocked on the door of their Peninsula Boulevard home and offered to repair the roof for $350. The couple told police they noticed two females and a child sitting in the back of a black pickup truck. They agreed to the repair and offered to have the people in the car stay in their home to stay cool, police said.

The victims retrieved $350 from a container in which they keep cash,
replaced the lid and placed it in the sink. They paid the man and said
they were momentarily distracted when he asked to use the bathroom.

According to police, when the subjects left the house, the victims
noticed the container was on the countertop and the remaining cash was missing.

It was unclear from the police report if the man ever completed the roof repair.

Hewlett Bank Robbed by Armed, Masked Men

Two masked men armed with handguns entered the Roslyn Savings Bank in Hewlett last week and ordered nine bank employees to get down on the floor of the bank, according to police.

One man jumped over the teller counter and removed an unknown amount of US currency, police said. One of the men sprayed Mace into the face of a 57-year-old male employee, police said. The victim was treated at the scene and refused further medical assistance.
The men fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. There were no customers in the bank at the time.

Reckless Endangerment in Malverne-West Hempstead

A Freeport man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after allegedly
fleeing from New York State Police and hitting another car on the
Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead. The driver, Hamlet
Pennicooke, 23, of Freeport, was arrested for reckless endangerment
first degree, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest,
leaving the scene of a personal injury auto accident and 15 traffic
violations. The defendant was held for arraignment in Nassau County
First District Court.

DWI And Manslaughter in Levittown

A Town of Hempstead Public Safety officer was arrested Thursday and
charged with driving while intoxicated and manslaughter after he
allegedly killed a man who was crossing Hempstead Turnpike, Nassau
County police said on Friday.

According to detectives, Robert Core, 42, of Hempstead, was responding to an emergency call in Levittown just before 11:30 p.m. when he struck a 50-year-old male, identified as Eddie Albert Cotto, of Lindenhurst, who was crossing southbound on Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue. Core was driving a Town of Hempstead Public Safety Vehicle.
