Fire At Crave Restaurant Thursday

Firehouse within feet of the blaze.

A fire broke out at Crave Restaurant in Port Washington Thursday evening — just two doors down from the Flower Hill #1 firehouse on Haven Avenue.

Smoke could be seen coming out of the vents of the roof from a fire in the basement of the newly-opened eatery at 6:21 p.m., according to 1st Assistant Chief Bryan Waterson of the Port Washington Fire Department.

In what might have been one of the shortest commutes in the history of the department, fire trucks traveled from 12 Haven Ave. to the site of the fire at 14 Haven Ave.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters had the fire under control quickly.

"The fire is under control and under investigation," said Waterson at 7:30 p.m.

The restaurant, which opened in March, is located directly across from the Long Island Rail Road Station. It is unclear when the restaurant will re-open for business.

In a similar incident occurred Thursday in Great Neck when fire broke out inside a home just doors down from a firehouse in the Village of Thomaston.
