Quick Response, Quick Thinking Put Out House Fire

No one injured in Sunset Lane house fire on Thursday afternoon in Port Washington.

The Port Washington Fire Department responded to a general alarm fire on Thursday afternoon at 6 Sunset Lane. The fire was extinguished in approximately 10 minutes, according to PWFD Chief Thomas McDonough who said the homeowner's daughter aided in containing the blaze.

"The homeowner's daughter did a great job by closing the door and containing it to one room," McDonough said. He added that the fire started in the den, most likely in a trash can, just after 4 p.m. The homeowner's daughter attempted to put out the fire herself, but when she couldn't, she closed the door of the room and got out of the house. No one was injured during the fire.

PWFD responded to the call with two engines and a ladder and rescue truck. Units from nearby departments, including Manhassat and Roslyn, also responded as part of the Mutual Aid Agreement.
