St. Peters Students Learn About Fire Safety

Children bring home materials to inform parents as well.

During Fire Prevention Week, Port Washington resident Robert J. Pape, Jr., a member of the , visited with pre-school and pre-K students at .

Pape read a story to the children about fire trucks and reminded them of the importance of fire safety. It is never to early to learn about being safe from the dangers of fire, Pape told the students. He reinforced the importance of calling 911 in an emergency, and using "stop-drop and roll" in the event of a fire.

"The kids were just great," Pape said. "They asked me questions, told me stories and tried on my fire helmet and fire coat."
