Anyone wonder about the causes for this? Or for the fact that there are fewer clerks in the courthouses? Or fewer Park employees? And for the forseeable future, this trend continues? It's arithmetic. High unemployment leads to lower revenues (less taxes); second, the returns on the State pension funds are way down ( no surprise, interest rates are non-existent). This means higher contributions to pension funds from municipalities that are already strapped. We have a perfect actuarial storm. Are we as safe? In Port, Manhasset and upscale areas, sure. What about the higher crime areas? Perhaps not so safe. We have to wait and see how the statistics come in over the next 2-3 years. In Nassau Co. we probably had more cops than we needed, but the fewer police officers will be more stressed.
