Maintaining a Strong U.S. – Israel Relationship

Temple Sinai of Roslyn is proud to host United States Senator Kirstin E. Gillibrand (D-NY) on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. to discuss “Maintaining a Strong U.S. – Israel Relationship.”  The event is being co-sponsored by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island and is open to the entire community.  "Temple Sinai is honored to host our esteemed junior senator from New York to discuss an issue that is of utmost importance to the Jewish community," said David Schwartz, President, Temple Sinai of Roslyn.  “Being able to co-sponsor the event with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island and other local Jewish institutions, enables us to reach out to more people in the area who are excited to hear Ms. Gillibrand speak on this critical topic.”

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was one of three Senators, along with Ron Wyden (R-IL) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), who urged the Senate Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development to allocate critical funding for the U.S.-Israel Energy Cooperative Agreement for fiscal year 2012, which led to Congress passing the Omnibus Appropriations Bill in December 2011.  This bill included $2 million in funding for the U.S.-Israel Energy Cooperative Agreement.  Senator Gillibrand has led the fight over the years ensuring that this critical grant program between the U.S. and Israel continues.

Senator Gillibrand pledges to continue to strengthen America's close relationship with the State of Israel.  In the House of Representatives, she stood with Israel to protect its citizens against terrorist threats, strengthen sanctions against Iran to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons, and supporting Israel's continued efforts to bring peace to its people.  The U.S. and Israel have a strong bond, and in the Senate, Senator Gillibrand will advocate for policies that continue to strengthen their deep friendship.
