Future Looks Bright for Girls Bowling

Young Lady Vikings rolled some strikes and some gutter balls, but with enough practice team members hope to throw some turkeys in the future.

The Schreiber girls bowling team had an unusual season to say the least. The team was riding high early on, winning its first five matches. Then, the young Lady Vikings hit a wall.

"We came right out of the gate and won our first five matches, defeating Garden City and Manhasset, something the Vikings haven't done in a long time," Coach Kevin Braddish said. "Then our inexperience set in and we lost six in a row before splitting our second-to-last game against Roslyn."

Braddish described the season a having "lots of ups and downs" but sees a bright future for the team, which consists of eight freshman and two sophomores.

"As long as the girls practice and work hard, they'll be very successful in the years to come," Braddish said.

The coach said despite the team's inexperience that there were many bright spots this season. He specifically pointed out the play of freshman Emma Zorfass, who just completed her third season with the team. "She averages a 120 to 140 per game," Braddish said proudly.

Zorfass praised the team for its growth and hard work during the season. "As a team, I think we had had a great season," she said. "Although we are one of the underdogs out there, we managed to improve our scores and had a great time. I think we have established players that will return to the team next year."

The girls on the team agree that the future is bright for the Lady Vikings. "For a team of all underclassmen, we had a season full of improvements," Jenna Lipman said. "I know we will be very successful over the next few years."
